A San Francisco native, Albert was a graduate of Mission Dolores Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, also taking shop courses at Mission High School to become a machinist. He worked as a journeyman machinist and also a salesman for the DoALL Company before joining the San Francisco Water Department. Albert lived many of his years in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco where he raising his family.

A lifelong learner and philosopher; Albert traveled the globe in his quest for knowledge. As a young man, through his mentorship with Professor Benjamin Lehman (UCB) and Margaret Shedd he was invited to join a writing fellowship in Mexico City. Later, he received the James D. Phelan Literary Award for his manuscript Some Day, I'll Swim the Gate. Albert would travel to many countries during his lifetime including Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Puerto Rico. His favorite city was undeniably Venice, Italy which he later called his home away from home.

An exceptional artist and writer, Albert was proud of his many works. He wrote multiple memoirs, manuscripts, and books. One of his favorite pastimes was sharing his ideas and world views in "Letters to the Editor" (San Francisco Chronicle). On occasion, he had lunch with the editor herself. Watercolors were his favorite for painting and over the years he created an abundance of extraordinary work. The most famous painting of Albert's was the one he was commissioned to create for the Adua Hotel in Venice, Italy. He traveled there in 1999 with his youngest son for its installation, and proudly to this day it remains on display.

Albert lived a healthy and thoughtful life. His favorite physical activity was undoubtedly handball, which he mastered with lifelong friend and champion Rudy Stadlberger. Together they joined and remained members of the South End Rowing Club in San Francisco for decades.

Albert was known as "Pops" to his sons Joe and Albert (Beto), and "Nono" to his two grandchildren Albert (III) and Amy, Auntie Frances and his niece Johanna. Albert is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Genevieve "Jenny" Ujcic. His is also preceded by his brothers Rudy and John Ujcic.

Albert was extremely proud of his Croatian heritage and was so very proud to be called "the oldest living Ujcic."
