IPSWICH, MA – Anna Gialich Wharton, 90, a resident of Phoenix AZ for nearly 60 years, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2021.

Anna was born and raised in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. She attended Roosevelt High School and spent 15 years working at Security First National Bank (now Bank of America) in downtown LA.

Her parents and extended family were from Croatia (then Yugoslavia), and as USA immigrants they enjoyed fellowship as members of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge 177, and St. Anthony Croatian Church.

By the good fortune of growing up near Hollywood during its golden age, Anna relished living and working in the center of the entertainment industry. In 1958, she met Keith, a young engineer newly arrived from Arizona, and said "yes" to a date. They were married at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas in 1960, and then relocated to Phoenix in 1963 shortly after the birth of their child Keith, Jr.

Taking time off work to raise her family, she frequently visited friends and family in Los Angeles. In Phoenix, Anna worked for the Phoenix Union High School District, first as an after school aide and eventually advancing to Executive Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent before retirement, while supporting Keith in his independent business. Anna and Keith attended St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Phoenix and were active in Desert Dance and Civitan Clubs, and she was in addition active in Angel Collectors, Welcome Wagon, and Red Hat clubs.

But her greatest passions were shopping and buying gifts for her family (especially her grandchildren), wearing costume jewelry, and driving a red convertible (license plate "DR'S MOM"!). Anna was by nature inquisitive, a caring but tough customer, and a meticulous record keeper; her radiant smile cast a glow on all who met and cared for her. She is survived by her son (Dr.) Keith Jr. and daughter in law Shelly Wharton of Rockport, MA; grandchildren Skyler, Naomi, and Genevieve Wharton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Keith Allen Wharton, Sr., and older brother Joseph N. Gialich. She is interred with her husband Keith Sr. in Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or Christian Care Foundation.
