Hello. My name is Anna Muscardin.

I want to tell you about my life.

I was born September 24, 1934 in Weehawken New Jersey to Vinko and Johanna Mattesich. My parents were Croatian/Italian immigrants, who worked hard to provide us the American dream. The depression was just over, times were still difficult, but we had everything we needed; shelter, food and family. My Mom was one of 10 children, so there was always lots of uncles, aunts and cousins around us.

I graduated from High School with a secretarial degree. Once I graduated I took the bus every day to the Port of Authority in NYC where I worked.

On many weekends my Aunt/Sister/Best Friend Anna and I would attend Croatian Church dances on 47th street in NYC. We always had such good times. Then one evening, I met and fell in love with my future husband, Mario. We married 2 years later.

Once we were married, we moved to Astoria and then Long Island to be closer to Mario's work. In 1958, we bought our house in Plainview. We were both so scared - could we afford it and maintain it. But here we are 64 years later. I was a Jersey girl, at first, it was difficult moving to the island but Long Island quickly became my home.

Once I had Joann, I became a stay-at-home Mom which was common in those days. I loved being home with my girls and taking care of my family. We have three wonderful daughters, Joann, Diane and Marianne. Each accomplished in their own way: Librarian, Accountant and great Mom/Wife/Para-Legal. They are all so loving, kind and funny. I love them fiercely.

There were many good times, barbeques, backyard pool parties, days at the beach - Sunken Meadow and Robert Moses. The Christmases, where we would have 25 people staying in our small house. They were sleeping everywhere - beds, sofas floors… It was such great times: cooking, laughing and singing.

These times were wonderful times.

My daughter Marianne married Ken, a good husband and father. They gave me 2 beautiful grandsons, Ryan and Brandon. I am so proud of my grandsons and the men they have become. Both are devoted to the medical field and are just so smart, hardworking and caring. The day before I passed, they were right there for me.

Through the years we did suffer heartache. Joann my eldest passed at 57 - no mother should ever feel that pain, illnesses and Mario in a nursing facility.

I tried to do my best to persevere and be strong, but at times it was difficult.

Now it is time to go home.

So please talk to me anytime you want. Let me know if you need advice, a shoulder to cry on or just have a funny story. I will always be listening and watching over all of you.

Wishing you have a long, happy and healthy life. Until we meet again.
