In Memory of Anthony Dizdar “Tonci”, born on November 23, 1952, in Oklaj, Croatia, passed away on July 14, 2025 near his home in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 72. A revered member of his community and a beloved brother, cousin, and uncle, Tonci was known for his humor, generosity, and always being available to help others.
Tonci immigrated to the United States from Croatia in the 1970s and made a lasting home and community in the Cleveland area where he served as a building inspector for the city and had a vast network of friends and acquaintances.
Tonci was passionate about Croatian independence and served on the board of the Croatian Home in Mentor Ohio where he helped oversee the expansion of the Croatian community center and elevated the visibility and political influence of one of the largest Croatian communities in the United States through organizing and hosting local and national politicians at various events and fundraisers held at the facility.
Tonci was an avid reader and had a passion for history and learning, collecting a vast library of books over the years and gifting subscriptions to national geographic magazines to the children in the family. Tonci loved the local sports teams including the Browns, Buckeyes, and of course the Croatian National Soccer team.
Tonci is survived by his 4 brothers and their spouses: Stjepan Dizdar, Ivan (Vinka) Dizdar, Pasko (Fanika) Dizdar, Marko (Nela) Dizdar, 3 nieces, 4 nephews, cousins, and a community that cherished his presence and will deeply feel his absence.
