On January 2, 2025, the world lost one of its brightest lights when Anthony (Tony) Sarar passed away peacefully at the Melville Hospice Home in White Rock, BC.

Anthony was born in Vancouver, BC on November 30, 1972, and raised in Richmond, BC by his loving parents Mate and Nada Sarar alongside his adoring sister Anne (Kirincic).

A vibrant and social child, Anthony spent many of his childhood days riding his bike all over Richmond meeting with friends and causing trouble. Anthony was a social butterfly during his teen and young adult years and kept in touch throughout his life with his wide range of friend groups. He was a proud Croatian-Canadian, an adventurer and athlete who enjoyed playing hockey and most of all lacrosse. Many weekends were also spent fishing along the dyke in Richmond with his dad, Mate.

Anthony was a dedicated husband to his wife Laura of 28 years, an affectionate father to his two children Matthew, 19 and Elyse, 15 and of course his devoted dog Sydney. He always put his family first and never left any doubt how much they were loved and adored by him. His children were his pride and joy and nothing made him happier than watching them excel in life.

After college Anthony had a successful career in sales, working for a variety of companies in the Technology and Cyber Security industries. His charisma, easy going personality and endless knowledge granted him the gift of success. Customers often turned into friends and followed him throughout his career.

Anthony led an extraordinary life filled with adventure, travel, and love for all things. He was a remarkable man who treated everyone who crossed his path both personally and professionally with kindness, respect, warmth, and humour. He had a vast knowledge in many areas, making him a natural mentor to many people and often the go-to guy for advice. He was charming and witty and had a special presence that brightened every room and space he entered. His positive energy was infectious and unmatched.

Anthony had an incredible passion for snowboarding, fly fishing, travel, gaming, his career, and his beloved ‘65 VW Beetle. He snowboarded all over BC enjoying the terrain every time like it was his first time. His yearly trips to Retallack Lodge were the highlight of each winter season. His summer time rides in the Beetle with the bass up high gave him so much joy and brought him back to life after the passing of his loving parents Mate and Nada. Although unable to in recent years, the times Anthony spent casting flies on BC’s lakes were cherished moments he spent with close friends and family.

Anthony was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in the summer of 2023 at the young age of 50. The courage and strength he displayed during his cancer journey was inspirational as he battled the impossible, an incurable disease. He never gave up and continued to shine as best he could fighting all the way until his last days on this earth. Losing him has left a hole in our hearts and our home but we can only hope his spirit is free and he is no longer suffering.

We want to thank BC Cancer, White Rock Home Health and the Melville Hospice Home, for the extraordinary care they provided Anthony throughout his journey.

A celebration of life will be held for Anthony in the coming months, to honour the incredible life lost.
