It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Anton (Tone) Mesić in his 83rd year on October 16, 2021. He was the loving husband of Maria for over 55 years.
Tata (father) to Emil (Marijana), Vera, Anton and Mirjana (Josip). Proud Deda (grandfather) to Franjo, Marko (Yvanna), Antonia, Kristina (Mario), Anton, and Ivana and was blessed to see his first great-grandchild, Stella.
He also leaves behind his sisters, Marija (✝️Tone) and Katica (Ivan) and his brothers Stipe (Katica), Ivica (Marica), ✝️ Mile (Marija) and Nikola (Marija). His sister-in-law Vera (Delko) as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family in both Canada and Croatia whom he loved dearly.
In 1957, at the age of 18, Anton left his village of Jezerane, Lika seeking freedom and a better life for himself and his future family. He settled in the GTA, where he met his wife, with whom he would go on to share 55 beautiful years. He also sponsored many relatives and helped them establish roots in Canada.
Although far from his beloved homeland, he kept Croatia close to his heart. He was an active member of the Canadian Croatian Community, particularly in the Croatian parishes of Toronto and Mississauga.
He found comfort in his Catholic Faith, which was always the foundation of support for him and his family. He was a kind-hearted and genuine man with a quiet strength, who made sure everyone was always welcome in his home and comfortable in his company. He was always ready to share a joke, play a game of cards or lend a helping hand. His spirit and legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical staff at Credit Valley Hospital unit 2B as well as the Renal Staff at the Watline site Kidney and Peritoneal Dialysis Clinics.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anton’s memory may be made to the Croatian Martyrs Parish in Mississauga, or to the Parish of Sveti Juraj in his hometown of Jezerane Lika (Croatia).
