It is with profound sadness that the family of Barica Kolic announce her peaceful passing on February 6, 2023 at the age of 75 years. In her final hours, she was surrounded by her loving family, as she entered God's care with comfort and grace.

Barica was born on July 10, 1947 in Budrovci in Draganici, Croatia to Ivan and Ana Bene. In 1966, Barica came to Thunder Bay and was reunited with her grandparents, Bara and Josip Bene who had immigrated to Canada before her. It was through Bara Bene, that Barica met the love of her life, Ivan Kolic. The two fell in love and were married in September 1967. Together, Ivan and Barica built a life and, in their nearly 55 years of marriage they were blessed with two children, 4 grandchildren and many happy memories together. Barica treasured every moment and cherished her family. She was so proud to be a “Babi.”

Barica worked hard both in and out of the home; the house was always in perfect order and laundry washed, hung and pressed. She would always have a hot, home cooked meal ready for all to enjoy. How we loved the special occasion dinners, complete with cabbage rolls, homemade stuffing (mlinci), crepes (palacinke), turkey and walnut rolls to name a few. Wherever possible, Barica would use vegetables from her garden and her pickled beets were always a special treat. Many memories were had and shared over these family gatherings.

Barica worked in several different jobs including being a chambermaid at the Prince Arthur Hotel, a waitress and finally as a custodian at the Thunder Bay Public Library. She had many happy memories from her time at work and made many friends along the way.

During Barica's life, she encountered several health difficulties, including a back injury, various cancers, and several mini-strokes. But Barica was a strong and motivated woman, always pushing through, demonstrating her resiliency. However, her health issues became more significant over time and, with the recent losses of her younger brother, Joe (2017), her mother Ana (2021) and dad Iva (2023), Barica declined in her overall health and wellbeing. Despite her efforts, her body and mind grew tired and she yearned for peace and comfort. Barica is now at rest and has joined those who have predeceased her including her parents and brother, grandparents - Bara and Josip Bene, Mara and Imbra Grahac, mother-in-law Barbara Kolic, father-in-law Anton Kolic, cousins Marija Samija and Tony Jazvac, daughter in law Rosetta Kolic, nephew Tony Kolic Jr. and other family members in Canada and Croatia.

Barica will be lovingly remembered by husband Ivan (John) Kolic, son John Kolic Jr., and daughter Christina (Mark) Brassard. Grandchildren, Chesley and Thomas Brassard, and Luka and Gabriella Kolic will have fond and long-lasting memories of their Babi. Barica is also survived by brothers-in-law Victor Kolic, Joe Kolic, Tony (Lisa) Kolic, sister-in-law Mary (Sandy) Nucci and several nieces and nephews including; Josh and Joy Kolic, Devin, Nicole, and Cody Kolic, and Mario and Elizabeth Nucci and great-nephew Clark Kolic. Barica also had family in Stoney Creek and Hamilton, Ontario (Ana Jazvac and the Jazvac and Piskuric families, Zdelar family), in Windsor (Barbara Ozbolt and the Ozbolt families), in Montreal and Ottawa (Samija families) and in Croatia (Jurica Bene and family, and Nikola Kusecek, Peter Jazvac (Draganici)) along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada and Croatia.
