It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of a deeply loved mother and grandmother. Berica Sarac, 89, of Sudbury, Ontario passed away December 27, 2022, at Guelph General Hospital with her family by her side.
Pre-deceased by her late husband Ljubomir ("Joe") Sarac and late Father Ivan Despot and late Mother Danica Despot (nee Blazevic), late brother Franjo "Frank" Despot (Anka), late brother Stevo "Steve" Despot (Anna), late brother Zvonko Despot (Anna). She is survived by her children John Sarac, Mirjana Kos (nee Sarac) (Anthony) and Zvonko Vucic (Annie) along with grandchildren Michael, Adam, Amanda, Emma, Larisa, Michelle and Kristie, great grandchildren Nolan, Natalie and Colton and many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends in Canada, Austria, and Croatia.
Immigrated to Canada September 16, 1961, from Mali Jadrc (Gorski Kotor), Croatia and settled in Sudbury, Ontario where she met and married her beloved husband Ljubomir. She was proud of her Croatian heritage and a devoted Catholic, supporting her community and church Sveti Marko.
Widowed after only 16 years of marriage in 1978, she devoted her life to her children ensuring their needs were taken care of working countless number of jobs, including spending over two decades working for the Sudbury Public School Board. She loved spending time around her home where she resided for 60 years.
She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden and was an avid baker, where we all enjoyed her famous Povitica (walnut bread). She also enjoyed embroidery and hosting family and friends at her home. She was a proud member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America.
We are comforted in knowing that she will be joining the rest of her family in heaven. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff from the Medical Unit (Fourth Floor East) at Guelph General Hospital for their care and compassion.
