He was the cherished fifth child of Ivo and Ana Deranja, born into a loving family of nine siblings. A top soccer player in his region, Bozho is remembered even today for his skill on the field.

Bozho embarked on a remarkable journey that began with his studies at the University of Zagreb.

In 1957, seeking freedom from communist Yugoslavia, he courageously made his way to Los Angeles, where he later secured citizenship. It was in this vibrant city that he encountered the love of his life, Josipa Simunovich, whom he married in 1962.

Together, they established their home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. A dedicated professional, Bozho worked for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District and ventured into real estate with properties across the region. Summers saw him engaged in commercial fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska, a passion he pursued for over four decades.

Bozho and Josipa's love flourished, and together they raised seven children. Active members of the St. Anthony and Our Mother of Good Counsel parishes, Bozho's commitment to community extended to his role as a founding member of several soccer clubs in Los Angeles, including SC Croat in San Pedro, where he played into his '50s.

A proud voice of the Croatian community, Bozho, alongside Josipa, produced and hosted the Croatian Radio Program in the 1970s. His leadership was evident in his role as president of Konavosko Dobrotvorno Drustvo, and in contributing time and resources to helping establish a free Croatia. He also held a variety of other posts within the community. A Croatian patriot and published poet, Bozho was often asked to act as Master of Ceremonies at Croatian events and weddings.

Bozho remained actively involved in the education of his children, being a beloved member of the parent communities of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Notre Dame High School, and the University of Southern California.

While preceded in death by his son Jerolim, Bozho is survived by his devoted wife Josipa and his loving children Ivo (Jeanne), Ana Ashby (Patrick), Klementina Rink (Gene), Miho (Jodi), Bozho (Elizabeth), Peter and 16 grandchildren. Bozho Deranja's legacy is one of fortitude in work, leadership by example, and enduring dedication to family, community, and his Croatian heritage.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
