Passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on April 25, 2023. If you had the pleasure of meeting Nick, you already know of his kind and generous spirit alongside his incredible smile.

Born in Zagreb, Croatia on Christmas Day in 1938, Nick came to Canada in 1968 with his wife of 54 years, Dagmar. He was a strong believer in education. Nick was proud of his three children, Patricia, Brenda, and Philip and his wife Cheryl, and three grandchildren Marcus, Carson, and Ellianna.

For Nick, his retirement from Ontario Hydro in 1993 was only the beginning, where his expertise in the construction and refurbishment of the energy sector became highly sought after. He went first to Mongolia and then to Bosnia-Herzegovina. In Bosnia, he worked alongside the U.S Army Corps of Engineers under the Special Representative of President Bill Clinton.

Nick would be the first to tell you that their move from Sarnia to Dundas, Ontario in 2015 was their smartest decision. In Dundas, he met the best of friends and planted his beloved tomato and garlic patch. Always involved in his community as a volunteer, Nick's long-standing contributions were recognized by many, including the Canadian Cancer Society.

We are particularly grateful to the McMaster University 'MacSeniors' program at the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE), where the infamous 'bagel' gang was formed. While some people dream about being a movie star, or going to the moon, his dream was to have a group of friends and go for coffee. His dream came true.

Cremation has already taken place and private celebrations will be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations can be made to the McMaster Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) MacSeniors program.
