On Saturday, March 27, 2021 Bozo Gera, loving husband and father of five passed away at the age of 91.
Bozo was born on October 10, 1929 in Gromaca, Croatia to Duro and Kate Gera. In his early years he worked on his family farm and was a butcher in his village. In 1954 he fled the former Yugoslavia by crossing the Adriatic Sea in a small boat, traveling for two nights while suffering a broken motor and numerous other obstacles. After arriving in Bari, Italy he worked as a sailor traveling to the Middle East and South America. In 1956 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Watsonville, California where he found work in local orchards and ultimately started his own apple farming and real estate business.
Bozo loved time spent with family and friends along with his travels back to his home in Croatia. He was also an avid gardener who enjoyed making wine and smoking his own prosciutto and kobasice.
Bozo will be deeply missed by his wife Ane; his five children George, Bob, Katerina, Mark (Shirley) and Teresa (Sean); along with his grandchildren, Celsianna, Bianca, Luka, Conner, Pero, Nikolas, Marko, Melanie, Niko and Roko; sister Nela Kusalo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Mehl's Colonial Chapel located at 222 East Lake Avenue, Watsonville, CA 95076. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians (Valley Catholic Church), 2401 East Lake Avenue, Watsonville,
CA 95076.
