With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved "dida" and father Damir Katacic. After a sudden illness, he passed away in his beautiful hometown of Split, Croatia.
He now joins his beloved wife Cecilia who just recently passed away in September. Damir is preceded in death by his parents Antica and Bozo, and this past January his oldest brother Vjeko. He is survived by his brother Eduard (Vanja) and sister Vjera.
Damir is also survived by his two daughters Alexandra and Erika, sons-in-law Domagoj Duvnjak and Tomislav Kozic and two grandsons Matej and Marko. Damir graduated in ecomonics in Split. He immigrated to France, then Canada for a few years before moving to California. In San Pedro, he worked as a carbide die specialist for Hi-Shear Aerospace Corporation in Torrance for many years and also for West Coast company until he retired.
Damir was very innovative, inventing several tools and machines to enhance production for the company. His creativity did not stop there. Damir was always busy remodeling, welding, building and restoring furniture, creating sculptures and other useful items for his homes here and in Croatia.
He loved working with cement, making picnic tables, large barbecues, benches, and model lighthouses. Damir was dedicated to his loving wife and daughters as well as his family back home in Split. He always made sure to visit relatives and friends regularly as well as invite them to his home.
While living in San Pedro, he made it a priority to travel to Croatia almost every year to spend time with family, friends and relatives. Damir was a true family man.
