Danica Krasovec

Rođena:13.08.2021. ()

Preminula:09.09.2021. (Navin, Manitoba, Kanada)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Danica, our mother, grandmother (Baka) and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully, just weeks after her 100th birthday, in the early morning of September 9th with her son Zel and daughter Brigit by her side. She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by son Zel (Naomi), grandchildren Tory and Niki; son Boris (Lynn), grandson Brian (Vicki), great grandchildren Taylor and Brendan, granddaughter Kelly (Gord), grandson Aaron, great grandson Pierce; daughter Brigit, granddaughters Sydney and Casey, as well as family and friends across the globe. She was predeceased by her husband Viktor Krasovec on June 20, 1998. As well as numerous family members and friends.

In 1954, bravely and courageously she and Viktor, with their sons, left their extended families in Zagreb, Croatia and lived in Austria, while waiting to leave for Canada to provide their family with a better life. The sea voyage was difficult for Danica as she was pregnant at the time. The family arrived in Halifax on March 31, 1956. Danica worked as a secretary in Zagreb and then later as a labourer in Winnipeg to help provide for her family. She was able to grasp the English language quickly, teaching herself and helping her husband and children with their new life in Winnipeg.

Family was everything to Danica. She worked hard in raising and taking care of us. She took great joy in cooking and always made sure every meal was homemade and nutritious. We have fond memories of her homemade soups, stuffed peppers, stretching dough for noodles and apple strudel and apple pies; and many other Croatian meals and desserts.

She was a very sociable person and had a playful sense of humour. She was always striking up a conversation and making those who passed her laugh or smile. She brought joy to many people. She particularly loved music of any kind, whether it be classical, Doris Day or Daniel O’Donnell. She was known to float across the dance floor at the Slovenian dances with her late husband Viktor.

Our family would like to thank the community of the Slovenian Church for being a part of our family especially during our parents’ early years in Canada. We also would like to thank the staff and support team at River East Personal Care Home for their kindness and care of our mother during her later years. Lastly, we want to express our gratitude to family and friends who were part of our mother’s life in one way or another. She felt your love as it brought her great joy and made her life more meaningful.

A private family gathering will be held at Green Acres. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) or to a charity of your choice in her memory.

“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.”
