It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Dragica Hrestak (nee Fric), age 82 years, peacefully in hospital on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. Dragica was born May 11, 1940 in Vrskovac, Vivodina, Croatia. She came to Canada in 1963 after marrying her husband, Rudolph Hrestak.
Dragica worked as a housekeeper for most of her life, retiring from the LPH in 1998. To her, the position was so much more than just a job. She made lasting connections through her friendly and warm demeanor and was always going above and beyond for her colleagues and patients. She could often be found participating in events like Walk With The Doc around Boulevard Lake.
Dragica enjoyed spending time in her garden, always having the most luxurious flower beds on the block. Some of her favourites included the lilies and dahlias in front of her home. She also grew many vegetables and was particularly proud of her tomatoes, whom everyone was always asking for. She was a faithful woman and long time member of Our Lady of Loretto RC Church and the Catholic Women's League. She also enjoyed knitting and taking walks with Rudy in her spare time.
She was the generous hostess of countless Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings, of which her entire family looked forward to. Her delightful meals, infectious smile and classy appearance were always the highlight of family gatherings. The one thing she loved more than anything was her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild, spoiling them at every chance.
Dragica will be forever missed by her sons, Willy (Stacy) and Steve; grandchildren Clara and Christopher; great-grandchild Sonny; sisters Anna and Pepica in Croatia; and brother Marco Fric in Thunder Bay. She is also survived by Vera and Mark in Thunder Bay; Mara and family in California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay, St. Thomas and Croatia.
Predeceased by her husband, Rudy; brothers Rudolph, Lovro, Ivan, and Joe Fric; and sisters Mara, Kata in Croatia.
