It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dragica Titan, known by her family and friends as Darlene, on June 10th, 2023 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, at age 81. She suffered a debilitating stroke in November of 2021, and fought a long and courageous battle with her son Joseph by her side until the end.
Darlene was born in Gornje Pokupje, Croatia on June 17, 1941 to parents Peter and Danica Halic as the youngest of three sisters, and came to Canada in 1961.
She is predeceased by her parents, her two sisters, and her husband Joseph Titan. She is survived by her three children, Peter, Nancy, and Joseph, two grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua, as well as many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins in Croatia.
Darlene worked for over twenty years at St. Joseph’s Hospital until injury forced her to retire. Regardless, she continued working by bookkeeping for the family business, Titan Forest Products, up until her stroke.
She also spent much time socializing with friends and neighbors, cooking and baking for her family, gardening in the backyard, embroidering artwork, playing pool and cards, and occasionally traveling to casinos to play Keno. She also enjoyed attending service at Corpus Christi Church.
Darlene enjoyed every challenge her grandson Nicholas put before her, whether it was chasing after him as a toddler, watergun fights in the backyard, countless board games and video games, or bike riding and playing soccer. She cherished every moment.
Darlene was kind, generous, and very energetic. Her vibrant personality made many friends, and brought joy to those around her. She was also honest and brave, with a strong will that supported her loved ones through all good and bad times. We will miss her sense of humor, and most of all her loving, giving, and caring spirit. She was always there for her family and friends no matter the circumstance.
A very special thank you to all the caregivers and staff at Hogarth, St. Joseph’s, and TBRHSC who took special care of Darlene during her difficult journey. Angels you are all.
