It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Baba Nitsa. After facing the challenges of ALS with courage and quiet resilience, she passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2025, at the age of 80.
Our mom was a kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who always put her family first. She worried about everyone more than herself and was the glue that held our family together. Her love knew no limits, and her unwavering devotion was the foundation of our lives.
Helen is survived by her cherished husband of 58 years, George; her sons John (Lilly) and Joe (Christine); and her beloved grandchildren—her “kids”—Thomas, Julia, Matthew, and Marcus. She is also survived by her sister Flora Bermarija (Frank); her brother Kris Krstevski Kotsiou (Patricia); her sisters-in-law Nitsa Krstevski Kotsiou and Lika Krstevski Kotsiou; her sisters-in-law Anica Ilijanic (the late Steve) and Marica Hrstic (Ranko); and her brother-in-law Vladimir Sulug. She is predeceased by her parents, Tanas and Lika Krstevski Kotsiou, and her beloved brother, John Krstevski Kotsiou. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many family members, kumovi, and friends across Canada, Macedonia, Croatia, and Australia.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Chum and Nurse Barbara, along with the entire ALS Clinic (4U) team at McMaster Hospital, for your exceptional care and unwavering support. Thank you as well to Melissa at ALS Canada for your kind and gentle guidance. A special thank you to Sarah, Mandy, and Julie for the outstanding care you provided. We are deeply grateful.
