In the early hours of December 13, 2023, Franjka (Seka) Alivojvodić, née Rukavina, passed away at Royal Columbian Hospital after a brief illness.

Seka was born on September 15, 1941 in Konjsko Brdo, Perušić, Croatia to Joso and Ana Rukavina. She grew up on a farm with her older brother Stipe and younger sister Ana.

It was a simple but fulfilling life. She married Nikola Alivojvodić in 1960. They had a son, Mike, in 1961 and daughter, Anita, in 1967. Shortly thereafter, in 1970, Nikola moved to Canada in search of a better life for the family. Seka and the children followed in 1972, settling in Vancouver where the family remains to this day.

She worked as a seamstress for many years at West Coast Woollen Mills and continued to create beautiful pieces for her family and friends long after her retirement. Her best work, however, was in the kitchen where she made an endless supply of traditional Croatian baked goods. Further, the skills she learned growing up on a farm transferred to her life in Vancouver where she and her husband kept a flourishing vegetable garden that fed the entire neighbourhood. This is only surpassed by her love for her family.

Seka is survived by her husband, Nikola Alivojvodić; son, Mike (Barbara) Alivojvodić; daughter, Anita (Joe) Ryan; grandchildren, Nicole (Dario) Brzović, Jessica Ryan and Caitlin Ryan; brother, Stipe (Marija) Rukavina as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends in Canada and Croatia.
