We are saddened to announce the passing of Frank Politeo on December 13, 2020 at the age of 96. Frank was predeceased by his wife Zdenka and his son Tom and is survived by his daughter Melinda. He was born in Tacoma, Washington educated in Zagreb, Croatia then moved to Los Angeles where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a well known architect by profession and an amazing and gifted singer and entertainer as a hobby.
The St. Anthony Parish Center, the most impressive in Los Angeles Archdiocese, was his work of art with many Croatian features and emblems. Many years prior to creating and designing the Parish Center, Frank renovated the St. Anthony’s old Parish hall, built in 1933, and adopted it for the large Croatian Community to enjoy. In addition, he designed and managed construction of the Parish rectory well over 50 years ago. By nature, Frank was a very giving person; he contributed to the Croatian Community, worked hard, and was always a go-to person for small or complex and challenging architectural projects. He always had a helpful answer.
Frank continuously strived for keeping one Croatian community in Southern California by equally participating in Los Angeles and San Pedro. As most of us remember, Frank was at every Croatian event with his peculiar smile, amazing voice and being clever in telling stories and entertaining the fellow Croatians. He was funny and easy going and his legacy will be with us forever.
One of the greatest Tamburica minds, Mr. Josip Bachmann with St. Anthony Tamburica orchestra, accompanied Frank on many performances and concerts. His amazing voice and some old Croatian songs have been recorded and preserved on records and CDs, titled the Croatian Sounds.
Frank will be deeply missed by family, friends, colleagues and entire Croatian Community. On behalf of the St. Anthony parishioners and members of Croatian Club in San Pedro, we offer our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy on the loss of our dear friend and great Croatian.
His deeds will remind the future generations of this great man for many years.
