Gojko Gavran, 76, passed away on October 20, 2026. Born on April 26, 1950, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gojko made his home in Manteca, California, for the past six years, having relocated from Los Angeles to be closer to his beloved grandchildren.
Gojko is survived by his loving partner, Sonia Tobar; their children, Jure Gavran, Frank Gavran, and Antonija Kozina; his cherished grandchildren, Emory, Livi, Nikica, Raffaela, Leo, and Matija; and his siblings, Ana, Mijana, Radmila, Rosa and Radoslaf.
A skilled carpenter for over 40 years, Gojko was a hardworking and talented craftsman who took great pride in creating things with his hands. His passion for woodworking extended well beyond his profession, as he enjoyed building birdhouses, bird feeders, and benches. He was equally passionate about gardening and found great satisfaction in growing his own fruits and vegetables. An excellent cook and master of the barbecue, Gojko especially enjoyed preparing meals using the fresh ingredients he had grown himself.
Gojko had a deep appreciation for his Croatian heritage and loved traditional Croatian music. He enjoyed playing the Gusle a single-stringed bowed instrument and various other traditional instruments, filling his surroundings with the familiar sounds of his culture. An enthusiastic soccer fan, he faithfully followed the Croatian national team and took great pride in cheering them on. A natural conversationalist, Gojko loved sharing stories, and staying connected with family and friends throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, and Croatia. No matter the distance, maintaining those relationships was always important to him.
Gojko was a man of simple pleasures, unique traditions, and unmistakable character. One of his favorite combinations was coffee and French bread, which he often enjoyed together. He was also known for his impeccable table manners, always using a knife and fork regardless of what was being served. It was just one of the many little things that made Gojko who he was. He carried himself with grace, took pride in the way he did things, and appreciated life's everyday moments.
Above all, Gojko treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him tremendous happiness and were the reason he made Manteca his home. He will be remembered for his kind heart, giving nature, his craftsmanship, his love of gardening and music, his lively conversations, and the pride he carried in his heritage
