Cherished Tata of Rick (Micha) and LeeAnn Hribljan (Joey). Son of the late John and Mary Bermarija, and son-in-law of the late Dragica Kolic. Treasured Didi to Eric and Jasmine Hribljan and Ivan and Luke Bermarija. Brother to Shirley Muzak (Bill), Tom and brother-in-law to Kay Petrusich. Uncle to Tessa, Danny and Christine. He will be missed by his extended family, many dear cousins, friends and fellow tamburaši.
John grew up in Hamilton, and he and Lillian raised their family in Stoney Creek. He worked in the family business at the Gage House, the Driftwood, and Rookies Sports Café. John was very involved as a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union (CFU) and the Croatian National Home (CNH). John loved sports, especially golfing with the CNH Senior Golf League and snowmobiling with friends and family. With his larger than life presence, always having a joke or story to share, he attracted friends everywhere he went.
Croatian folklore music was central to John’s life. He played with the CNH Hrvatsko Srce, was a member of the Silver Strings Serenaders, Bećar Tamburitzans, and Seoski Lopovi, where he enjoyed performing at events and festivals near and far. He had the great joy of seeing his children and, more recently, his grandchildren follow in his tamburitza footsteps.
