Survived by: sons Ivan (Elena) and George (Michele); her granddaughters Ivanka and Marisa (Khaleel); great granddaughter, Elena.
She regarded each and everyone she met as a unique, multifaceted, complex human being with whole worlds of heart and thought to share. In English – this did not come through.
Nor did the fact that she had a very tough life right from the beginning: raised in a convent in Croatia, married young, survived WW2, new life in Canada, and even survived COVID-19!
But who she was, was not expressed in what she said, in English or Croatian – it was expressed in what she did.
She was a hard-working mother that loved reading, music – and above all, she loved her sons and their families and partners. Although she loved cooking and baking – she was packaged in layers – wife, mother, woman, grandmother, great grandmother. But wrapped around her are years of living, pain, joy, death, giving, growing, being.
She loved the colour blue and the blue windless skies …Now she will be a part of them forever.
