Ivo Batkovic, 78, of San Mateo, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 24, 1945 in Banja Luka, Bosna to Joso and Ana, and immigrated in his 20's to America with his wife and two daughters at the time, welcoming his third daughter in America. He had such a love for his culture and religion and was a founding member of the San Jose Croatian Catholic Church.
Even as he grew older, his mastery as a painter remained steadfast. He never relied on blue tape for precise edges, nor did he ever opt for a spray gun. He and his wife spent hours in their beautiful garden that reflected his nurturing spirit, and found joy in sharing their harvest with his loved ones and neighbors.
As a devoted Dida (grandfather) he spent many weekends watching his grandsons either on the BMX racetrack or on the soccer pitch. Most of all he enjoyed Wednesday family dinners, watching Family Feud and playing board and card games with the family.
Ivo is survived by Mira, his loving wife of 54 years; devoted daughters Marija Dzapo, Nada Batkovic, Ana Batkovic-Darius; sons-in-law, Dragan Dzapo, Petr Darius, Thomas Scott III; grandsons, Niko Marko Dzapo and Dominik Ivo Darius. Also, sister, Nada Buljan; brother/cousin, Tomo Tomic; uncle, Ferdo Batkovic (Croatia); aunt, Draga Radulovic (Croatia). A wonderful and large extended family will hold him in their hearts forever. He will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of generosity and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him.
