Dob: 88

Jarmila Lipa Jensen of Laguna Woods Village died peacefully at home on August 27, 2026. She was born to Zlatko and Elvira Lipa on November 27, 1937, in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (now Croatia).

Jarmila's childhood was profoundly shaped by the Holocaust. At age four, her family fled Zagreb, eventually reaching Italy. After Germany occupied Italy, her parents escaped to Switzerland, while Jarmila and her older sister were hidden in a Catholic monastery in Bedero near the Swiss border. Protected by the nuns, the girls remained there until the end of the war, when they were reunited with their family.

Unable to return to their former life in Zagreb, the family eventually settled in Prague. In 1968, Jarmila was in London when Soviet-led forces invaded Czechoslovakia. Rather than return to Prague, she immigrated to the United States and began a new life.

In 1978, Jarmila married Siegfried Jensen, a manager for Volkswagen of America. They remained together until his death in 2013.

Jarmila made her home in Laguna Woods Village for more than 25 years. She enjoyed tai chi, qigong, music, dance, and swimming.

Her remarkable life spanned countries and cultures, war and peace, loss and renewal. She will be remembered for the strength, resilience, and determination that carried her through nearly nine decades.
