It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Johanna Tellervo Dosen (nee Jamsa), at the age of 67 on Wednesday May 19, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home with her family surrounding her.
Johanna was born on July 18, 1953 in Kannus Finland and immigrated to Thunder Bay Ontario with her family in 1957. She grew up in a large Finnish family and took part in many cultural activities. During her early years she spent time with her family at Pohjanpirtti on Surprise Lake enjoying saunas, swimming, and other activities.
After meeting her husband Milan, she soon adopted and became a member of the Croatian Community in Thunder Bay. She volunteered her time at the Croatian Rec Centre Velebit.
Family was her main priority and love. She looked forward to her visits to spend time with her children and grandchildren out west. Her grandchildren were of the utmost importance to her.
Throughout Johanna's life she held various jobs from clerical positions at Royal Insurance and Ontario Hydro, was a cook at the Hoito, and finally her passion was working with children at St Paul's school and Little Lion's Daycare.
In 1968 through the sport of soccer, she met her husband Milan and they spent 46 years married. She is survived by her husband Milan, children Helena and Michael (Maria), grandchildren Hannah Sprovieri, Josip Dosen, Matthew Sprovieri, Tomislav Dosen, and Nathan Sprovieri. She was also survived by her siblings, Ulla (Mauri) Ahokas, Kari Jamsa, Marjaana (Eero) Martikainen, Eliisa (Lassi) Tuomialho, Simo Jamsa, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Kristofer, father Veikko, mother Laila and two brothers Erkki and Heikki.
Due to current restrictions, a private family service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Francesco Blazek officiating. Those wishing to attend the service, may do so virtually on the Sargent & Son Facebook page. If family or friends desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Autism Speaks Canada, or to the Croatian Parish, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
