Johanna Helena Marjanovic, of Concord, MA, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2025, due to heart complications.
She was born on March 29th, 1945 in a refugee camp in Linz, Austria. When she was 3 years old she and her family fled the war and made the long journey by boat settling in Chicago, Illinois. She spoke two languages: German and Croatian. When she arrived in America, she quickly learned English and helped her family with the language barrier as they started their new safe life in America. She adored her mother and father and did everything to help them create a beautiful life for themselves.
She loved the theater and earned a Degree in Theater & Arts from the University of Denver. She was always active in doing theater and later was the producer of her own cable assess shows, "Up at the Crack if Dawn" and "Speak Up, Speak out."
She loved assisting in the production of plays and musicals. And she made sure to take her children to as many shows as possible. Les Miserables and Evita were her favorite musicals that her daughter accompanied her to see many times.
Johanna was a single mother and raised two children by herself. She did this without complaint despite the hardships she endured. She loved her children tremendously and supported them in every way possible. Her daughter will cherish her forever.
After many years in Chicago, Johanna moved to Concord where her daughter attended high school. She wore many hats (pun intended), worked for Barbazon modeling as a model and then became their teacher. She helped her sister expand the meeting planning business. She was a caretaker for the elderly. The summer job she looked forward to every year was pool attendant for the Concord Greene resident pool.
Johanna loved physical fitness, was a regular at the Concord Fitness Club and eventually worked there as well! Her dream was to be a 90 year old aerobics instructor.
She was a loving and fun mother. She always took care of others before taking care of herself. She had the strength of 1,000 women! She was very active in her church community, attended several churches and spread God's word to everyone, feeding the poor and homeless, handing out gloves and hats to the less fortunate during the winter months. She loved Jesus and God so much and was always eager to learn more.
People remember Johanna for her Huge Heart! Her wonderful sense of humor and child like amazement of the little things. In the last years of her life, she loved visiting her daughter in Hawaii and had plans to move there. She loved the beach, the native plants and inhaling the warm Aloha with each breath.
Johanna helped and encouraged so many people, she displayed honor and integrity with everything she did, and continued to fight for justice no matter what it took. She leaves behind a daughter who continues to admire her strength and courage to spread love and truth to all.
Services will be held at a later date.
