John David Kuklish, 75, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Zagreb, Croatia, after a fabulous vacation with his beloved wife.
John was born on Tuesday, September 5, 1950, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to John Kuklish and Mary Jane Kuklish (née McGill). He earned his Bachelor’s degree from St. Vincent College and his Master’s degree from The Catholic University of America. He proudly served in the United States Army for three years as a medic during the Vietnam era.
John dedicated his professional life to helping others, working in Child Protection as a Supervisory Social Worker in Washington, D.C. His career reflected his deep compassion, strong sense of responsibility, and commitment to serving families and children in need.
A lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, John especially loved the Steelers and enjoyed attending Pirates baseball games whenever he could. He found great joy in fishing and playing golf with his father and brothers. At home, he took pride in caring for his yard, planting trees, and growing vegetables. His favorite hobby of all was traveling the world with his wife, Matilda.
John was an active and devoted member of Epiphany of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Annandale, Virginia, where he was also a dedicated member of the Men’s Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Matilda Kuklish; his daughters, Edith Kurz (Matt Kurz) and Natalie Kuklish; and his siblings, Joan Donahue, Jim Kuklish (Becki Kuklish), Jean Emmert (Dan Emmert), and Joe Kuklish (Angela Kuklish).
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kuklish and Mary Jane Kuklish, and his sister, Jane Kuklish.
