In Memory of John W. Zivich, age 93, of Willowick, passed away at home January 7, 2021. He was born February 27, 1927. Loving husband for 61 years of Elsie; proud father of John D. (Cindy Stombrys), Michael, and Cherylann; devoted grandfather of Joscelyn and John L.; brother of Violet Pisano (Roxie, deceased), and the deceased: Paul, Bill, Alice Knapick, Dorothy Brunecz and Rose Keenen; uncle to many nieces and nephews.
John, known as Stitch to family and friends, served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army and was a member of the St. Paul Croatian Youth Development Group. In the 1950’s he played bass with the Plavi Jadran Orchestra and continued to make music with the St. Stephen’s Button Box Band. After a dedicated career at U.S. Steel for 42 years, he spent his retirement with the St. Stephen’s Jolly Travelers and played bass in numerous bands over 20 years who volunteered at the Slovene Home for the Aged doing what he enjoyed most, playing music, especially polkas. He was a Cleveland sports fan and was fortunate enough to see all his teams win a championship.
