It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of our dear and longtime member Johnny Anton Huljev, on November 7, 2023, at the age of 48.
Johnny was born on March 13, 1975, in San Pedro, California, to parents Ante and Mirella Huljev. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He had 3 nieces and 9 nephews he enjoyed spending time with during the holidays and birthdays. Johnny loved being surrounded by family and friends, he had a caring soul and a warm smile.
At the young age of 12, he began fishing for salmon in South Naknek, Alaska with his father Ante. Every summer they would fish together and continued to do so for many years. Johnny had a passion for fishing and was a successful Captain of his three commercial fishing boats. He spent summers in Alaska fishing for King Salmon and he also spent his time off the coast of California fishing for squid, lobster, eel, and crab.
Johnny always had a heart full of pride and love for Croatia and would be seen around Croatian Hall for events and festivals.
Our thoughts and prayers to his dear mother Mirella, daughter Sunshine, sisters Lori, Marina, and Kathy and their families, and brother-in-laws Ivo and John.
