Age 70, late of Lockport, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice, Joliet on Sunday, February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was of Slovenian / Croatian heritage but was born in Germany in route to the United States, which then became his home in 1956 where he was raised in Chicago, and a resident of Lockport since 1989. Retired in 2011 from Northern Trust Bank, Chicago where he was a software programmer for many dedicated years.
Past President of the Alaskan Malamute Club of Chicago and was an active participant at the Slovenian Cultural Center in Lemont. Joseph was the best at trivia he surely could have been a one-man team! He was the original “Mr. Fix it” and could repair anything from cars to motorcycles. He enjoyed Sudoku in his spare time, but above all else cherished spending time with family.

Survived by three loving children, Joseph (Sarah Connolly) Vlahovic of Skokie, Michelle (Kevin Riff) Vlahovic of Lockport, and Tony (Nicole) Vlahovic of Lemont; four adored grandchildren, Alex Schulthies, Joey Vlahovic, and Leah and Brooke Vlahovic; four cherished siblings, Antonia Pettit, Mihela (Leon McIlvene) Vlahovic- McIlvene, John Vlahovic, and Peter (Anica) Vlahovic; his mother-in-law, Emily (Nee Stock) Vanoskey; one brother-in-law, Joe (Sheryl) Vanoskey; one sister-in-law, Sandy Vanosky; nieces and nephews, Isaac, Gabriel, and Isabella McIlvene, Maja and Jana Vlahovic, and Dan (Katie) Vanoskey. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Joseph’s name would be greatly appreciated.
