Josip Prsa, age 94, of Western Springs, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Josip was born on November 15, 1931, in the village of Mali Skocaj, on the border of present-day Croatia and Bosnia, to Jakov and Anka (nee Simic). His life was rooted in love for his family, devotion to his Catholic faith, and deep pride in his Croatian heritage.
Josip was a loyal employee of Electro-Motive and a longtime member of St. Jerome Croatian Catholic Church. His faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life, and he treasured the friendships he found through the church and the Croatian community.
Josip will be remembered for his unwavering faith, quiet strength, generous heart, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a special gift for making people feel welcome and bringing warmth and laughter wherever he went. His kindness, wisdom, and loving presence touched the lives of all who knew him.
Above all, Josip was a devoted family man. He gave his family a lifetime of love, guidance, and cherished memories. His legacy will live on in the traditions he honored, the faith he shared, the stories and laughter he gave them, and the love that will remain in their hearts forever.
Josip was the beloved husband of Iva (nee Jurcevic), with whom he shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Ana (Tomislav Bugarija) and Iva (Juraj Kostolansky), and the cherished grandfather of Mia Gabriella, who brought him immeasurable joy.
He will also be dearly missed by his siblings, Niko of Canada, Franjo of Germany, Manda of Croatia, and Ivica of Austria, as well as his many relatives and friends across the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, and Croatia.
Josip's family was his greatest blessing, and he treasured every moment spent with them. The love he shared with them will continue to be felt in the many memories they hold dear.
Josip found happiness in the simple pleasures of everyday life. He enjoyed tending to his garden, taking walks around the neighborhood, and following Croatian news on his iPad. He especially loved singing to his beloved granddaughter, Mia, creating tender memories that she and the entire family will cherish always.
These quiet moments reflected Josip's gentle spirit and his ability to find joy in the people and things he loved most.
