Born on May 3, 1944, in Trnovac, Croatia, Josipa was the youngest of four daughters born to Nikola Azic and Matija (née Babic) Azic. In 1969, she bravely immigrated to the United States in search of opportunity and a better life. She settled in Hoboken, New Jersey, where she worked for nearly two decades as a skilled seamstress in a coat manufacturing company. When the factory closed, Josipa seamlessly transitioned into residential real estate, where her warmth, integrity, and natural people skills flourished. She remained in real estate until her retirement in 2011.
That same year she arrived in the United States, Josipa met the love of her life, Ive (Ivan) Devcic. The two married in 1970 and made their home in Jersey City, where they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Together they raised two children: their son John, born in 1975, and their daughter Maryann, born two years later. In 1995, the family relocated to Summit, where Josipa continued to nurture her home and community.
Josipa found great joy in gardening and had a remarkable talent for transforming even the simplest yard into a vibrant and beautiful landscape. Spring was her favorite season, as it mirrored her belief in renewal and new life. When she was not tending to her garden, Josipa was often helping someone in need. A devout Catholic, she lived her faith daily and believed deeply that true joy comes from serving others—family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Josipa is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Ive Devcic; her devoted children, John Devcic and Maryann Orefice; and her cherished son-in-law, Dominick Orefice.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sisters: Kathy (Kata) Sertich, Maria (Mara) Martinovic, and Ana Azic.
Josipa will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and the love she so generously gave to all who were blessed to know her.
