It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Katherine (Katica) Troskot announce her passing on December 25, 2021.
Beloved wife of the late Miroslav, loving mother to Nicholas and Michael and daughter in laws Tracey and Micki. Loving grandmother to Nicole, Ryan, and Kyle. Also survived by her nephew Ed (Theresa), nieces Marianne (Brian) and Kathy. Predeceased by her parents Nikola and Kate Sebalj, brother Alojz, brother Nikola and sister-in-law Danica, sister Marica and brother-in-law Josip, and nephews Frank and Nick (survived by his spouse Monica).
Katherine was born May 21, 1935, in Vukova Gorica, Croatia, and emigrated with her family to Schumacher, Ontario in 1951. Married in 1959, Katherine and Miroslav moved to Hamilton in 1962 where they established themselves in the Croatian community and raised their two sons with love and devotion. The two were inseparable, they worked hard every day, and they were always looking to improve their lives. For more than 20 years, they were proud owners of Queenston Jewellery.
After retiring in 1998, Katherine turned to her passions of gardening and cooking and was always a willing babysitter for her loving grandchildren. Having overcome many losses in her life, Katherine was the definition of independence, resilience, and positivity. She was a warrior!
In the last five years, we sadly saw how Alzheimer’s took hold and stripped her of so much, but the disease was no match for her kind, loving, soul and gentle smile, which remained intact until the very end. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to the staff at Abington Court, who on countless times went above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Visnja, Tammy, Grace, Jessa, and Bayshore Nurse Rachel. Your dedicated professionalism, care, and support was so appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Due to the concerns with the Corona Virus, a private viewing and service will take place for immediate family only. Katherine will be buried beside her soulmate Miroslav at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton.
