Mali Iž

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fedora Lukin; his daughters Suzana Karaman, Angela Lukin, and Lora Lukin; his sons-in-law, Tonko Karaman and Alek Lukin; his six grandchildren, Luka, Marko, Dora, Daniel, Mateo, and Nikola; and his sister Smiljka Petean.

Born on his beloved island of Iž, the son of Fabijan and Antona Lukin, he left his homeland to pursue a new life.

After spending three years in Italy, a country he fell in love with, he made his way to his new home, Little Italy, NYC. He started his new life working various jobs that taught him a lot of new traits, one especially, became the thing many people always remember him for, his amazing cooking!

In 1966 on a trip home to visit his family, he was set up on a blind date that would end up changing his life forever. There he met and fell in love with Fedora Marelic, the loving partner that would spend the next 56 years by his side.

Together, they had three daughters, Suzana, Angela, and Lora, that would grow up to embody their love of family.

For years he worked alongside some of his best friends at a brass furniture company, Florence Design, in the South Bronx. He eventually became co-owner and after crossing the bridge to the Bronx for decades, he closed the business in 1990. To this day, you can still find his furniture in the homes of his close friends.

After retirement, he spent most of his time in New York and Croatia surrounded by his loving family, watching them grow, and ensuring that they knew that they were loved.
