Ljiljana M. Coleman (née Milković), departed this life peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her devoted children and grandchildren in her final moments.
Ljiljana was preceded in death by her parents, Maksimilijan and Aloisa, and her devoted husband of 39 years, John J. “Jack” Coleman. She is survived by her loving family: her seven children, Suzana, Ljiljana, Neven, Jane (Antonio), Patrick (Christina), Daniel, and Jamal (Rachelle); four children by marriage, John (Shirin), Brian, Arthur William (Julie), and Mary (Dave); eleven grandchildren, Nabil, Meghan, Maksimilijan, Luis, Sean, Olivia, Sebastian, Zia, Jaxon, Sina, and Badi; two great-granddaughters, Aria and Malia; nine grandchildren by marriage, Amanda, Kevin, Maxwell, Arden David, Sarah, Ryan, Quinn, Calvin, and Julia; and two great-grandchildren by marriage, Henry and Freya.
Ljiljana was born in the former Yugoslavia and grew up in the beautiful seaside town of Opatija on the Istrian peninsula of what is now Croatia, where she learned about and embraced the Baháʼí Faith, becoming one of the first Baháʼís in Croatia. She married Jack after moving to the U.S., settling in Maryland, and later moved to Ohio, where she served the Baháʼí community as Assistant to Auxiliary Board Member Curtis Russell. After a Baháʼí travel-teaching summer trip to the newly independent Croatia, Ljiljana and Jack brought their four youngest children back to Croatia to pioneer for the Baháʼí Faith.
There, they joined a beautiful, young, and dynamic community and hosted and participated in many events to promote the unifying messages of the Baháʼí Faith (www.bahai.org), which was the cornerstone of her life. In Croatia, Ljiljana served the Baháʼí community as an Auxiliary Board Member, appointed by Counsellor Ilhan Sezgin for the European Continental Board of Counsellors, and was elected to serve as a member of the Regional Spiritual Assembly of the Baháʼís of Croatia and Slovenia. Later, Ljiljana, Jack, and their two youngest children moved back to the U.S., where they lived in Colorado, Arizona, and finally in California.
Ljiljana radiated beauty from the inside out. She was compassionate, loyal, and had a boundless capacity for love. Her warm spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She lived a life full of grace, generosity, and an immense love for her family and friends. Ljiljana left a legacy of kindness, resilience, deep familial bonds, and an unwavering love for her beloved Baháʼí Faith.
Ljiljana’s children and grandchildren will carry her memory in their hearts forever, honoring the example she set in both word and deed. Ljiljana’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all those who loved her.
