Marija Lisac left this earthly realm on January 18, 2021, at the age of 79, after a long battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, she now resides in the heavenly realm with the Angels. Marija - or Mare, as she was known to friends was born in Gromaca, Croatia to Duro and Kate Gera.

She immigrated to the United States with her siblings and friends in 1957. She obtained her high school diploma, became a naturalized citizen, went on to beauty school, became a beauty operator, was the top of her class. She was a successful business owner and financially supported her family for 30 years. Her passion was sewing, needle point, and knitting. Her character to detail was above and beyond. If it didn't meet her standards she would take it apart and start over. Her pieces were flawless and stunning. She could have easily been a successful designer in the fashion industry.

It would be wrong to say that Marija lost her battle to HL, because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Marija stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Marija. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her fight.

Marija was a beautiful and loving mother, funny, and a beloved member of the Croatian Catholic Mission Assumption of Mary community in San Jose. Marija is survived by her daughter Christina and sons Michael, William (Desire), Stanko (Keidy), George (Michelle) and Marko (Jeanette). Grandchildren Caden, Marlena, Mateja, Reese, Vilko, Wyland, and Anika, brother Bozo Gera, sister Nela Kusalo and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic, the funeral service is by invitation only. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the World Wide Women Foundation making a difference around the world.
