It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Grgurevic. Mario, born on November 19, 1943, in Zadar, Croatia, peacefully departed from this world on December 14, 2023, at the age of 80, at Lower Cape Fear Life Center, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Mario was a man of unwavering dedication and hard work. He and his family left Croatia in 1972 and re-located to New Hyde Park, New York, where he spent 25 years of his life as a dedicated employee of Slattery Construction Company. Eventually, he and his wife re-located to Wilmington, NC, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
His commitment to his family and his community was steadfast, and he was admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He held dear his role as a loving husband, having shared 55 beautiful years of marriage with his cherished wife, Noemi Grgurevic. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love and stood as an example for all.
Mario's devotion extended to his son Dan and wife Jennifer, whom he treasured dearly. He found immense joy in their happiness and took pride in their accomplishments.
The blessings of grandparenthood graced Mario's life as he reveled in the love and laughter of his grandchildren, Johnny, Andrew, Ava, Bishop, and Leo. Their presence brought him immeasurable joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
However, the circle of life is not without its sorrows.
Mario was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Julie Grgurevic, who passed away on December 10, 2023 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Her absence left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will forever be held dear.
In remembrance of Mario and Julie's lives and in gratitude for the compassionate care they received, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear and Life Care. Your generosity will support their vital mission and honor Mario and Julie's memory in a meaningful way.
We bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Mario, whose presence enriched our lives and whose memory will forever be etched in our hearts. May he find eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
Mario's final resting place will be alongside his daughter Julie in Croatia, a place very dear to their hearts.
