Mary Erceg Seats

Mary Erceg Seats passed away peacefully Dec. 8, 2020, after a long fight with cancer. She was 96 years old.

Mary was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Clairton, Pa., to Croatian immigrants, Matte and Ruza Erceg. Not long after her birth, the family moved to Portland, Ore., returning to the Northwest where Matte had worked in the logging camps.

The second of nine children Mary did her fair share of work around the modest and very small North Portland house they called home, chasing the cow, delivering milk, going to grade-school at Holy Cross and high-school at Immaculata. During WWII, Mary worked as a clerk/secretary for the U.S. Maritime Commission. Following the war she worked as a secretary for Birkenwald Co. and Mercer Steel Co.

She met Robert Seats at Mercer and they were married Oct. 2, 1954. After Robert retired the two opened their own business, Trojan Storm Window Company, which they operated until 1985. They loved spending time together and traveled to Asia, Europe, and the Holy Lands as well as frequently visiting Reno (which they preferred to Vegas).

They approached their marriage as a partnership. Robert handled the money-making side of things and Mary held down the home-front working hard raising three boys, keeping the house immaculate and hot cooked meals always on the table.

Together they shared a mutual goal of providing for their children a life that they never had for themselves when they were children.

Mary is survived by sons, Jeff and Brian; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rose and Genevie; and brother, Donald.

A memorial service will be set after Covid restrictions have been lifted.
