We will forever love our darling and beloved mother and grandmother Mary Bergam. She lived a full life and peacefully died at her home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, in the loving embrace of her family.
Mary Georgia Bergam, née Antoncic, was born in Brooklyn NY on July 21, 1929, to Nicholas and Kate Antoncic. Nicholas emigrated to the United States and later went back to Omisalj, Croatia (then Yugoslavia) to marry his wife, Kate. He brought Kate back to New York. They had two daughters, Jean and Mary.
Mary, together with elder sister Jean, attended Fontbonne Hall Academy, a Catholic High School in Bay Ridge.
Mary went on to study classical piano at the Mannis School of Music. She later enrolled in secretarial school and worked on Wall Street.
Mary met Dr. Miroslav Bergam in 1959. He fell in love with her as she played Beethoven for him on the piano. They married in 1960 and welcomed their daughter, Mary, in 1961 and their son, Miro, in 1965.
After the death of her beloved husband, Miroslav, on January 2nd, 1983, she continued to live in her home where she had raised her children. There, Mary went on to have ten grandchildren. Her daughter Mary had three children: Brian, Katie, and Daniel, all intelligent, kind and thoughtful people. Mary’s fiancé is Chuck who she adored. Miro had seven children with Mary’s beloved and adored daughter-in-law, Georgette: Scarlett, Miroslav Jr., Noah, Chloe, Holden, Logan, and Hayden, all equally intelligent, kind and wonderful children. Katie has her partner, Remi and Scarlett has her husband Sascha. She loved her dear children Mary and Miro and her wonderful, spectacular ten grandchildren, as well as her dear Georgette, Chuck, Remi, and Sascha more than words can say. And they her.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, a sister, Jean and brother-in-law, Niksa, and a nephew Neven Milosevich. Her beloved nephew Robert Milosevich survives her, together with his wife Bel.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary, and her son, Miro, along with her ten grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Neda Kulusic and her niece Ivona Kulusic, married to David Ho, Miro’s wife, Georgette, Mary’s fiancé, Chuck, Katie’s partner Remi, Scarlett’s husband Sascha, as well as grandnieces Adriana, Ivona Maria and Margareta Kulusic-Ho. Mary loved them all.
Mary is also survived by many cousins, including her best friends who were her cousins as well, Mary Radich and Nikisa Kumbatovic. From schoolgirl days to advanced age, these three cousins were friends for life.
She played classical music, show tunes, Disney songs, and Christmas carols at her piano almost until her last day, to bring joy to her family and all holiday occasions. On one special occasion just a few New Year’s Eve’s ago, she spectacularly ran to the piano and spontaneously played Auld Lang Syne to everyone’s surprise and delight. She showed everyone that she still had it! We will never forget the happiness she brought everyone with her sparkling personality and tremendous musical talent. She was a forever present grandmother that brought happiness to everyone she met. Her children and grandchildren together with the rest of her family will miss her beautiful, loving presence to the end of time.
