Fresno, California - Mary Jane Jarrett passed away on October 5th, 2023 at the age of 95 surrounded by loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred.

Mary Jane was born to Maria and Michael Biliskov in Kaštel Lukšić, Croatia, and soon thereafter immigrated to the United States. After arriving at Ellis Island, they traveled across the country, making several stops along the way until finally settling in Kerman, California. Mary Jane graduated valedictorian from Kerman High in 1946 and achieved her Bachelors in Business Education at Fresno State in 1950. Fresno State is where she met her future husband Fred Jarrett.

After Mary and Fred were married, Mary Jane began her career teaching high school business at Selma High. Mary and Fred then moved to Spain where Mary worked as a secretary at the Torrejón Air Force Base. While in Madrid, she gave birth to her beloved daughter Adrienne in 1959.

After leaving Madrid, Mary and Fred lived in many international cities including Sao Paulo, Brazil; Beirut, Lebanon; and Dusseldorf, Germany where Mary continued to work as a high school business teacher at their respective American embassy schools. They moved back to California's Central Valley in 1971. Mary concluded her teaching career at Laton High School where her subject matter had evolved from shorthand, to typing, and finally to accounting and beginning computer skills.

Upon retirement, Mary Jane found additional ways to pursue her interests. She had a knack for gardening, decorating, and creating stunning floral arrangements. She enjoyed the fine arts including the opera, ballet, paintings, and museums. Among her favorite pastimes was studying world history and United States history, particularly World War II. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed researching various topics on the internet.

Mary was a caring and compassionate lady to all those she encountered. She enjoyed her life in Fresno near her extended family and lifelong friends. She especially enjoyed visits from her daughter Adrienne and grandchildren Shannon and Sean. Mary always had fun activities planned for the children and they adored being around their Grandma.

Mary is survived by her daughter Adrienne Burns; grandchildren Shannon (Sam) Luff and great grandson Ezra, Sean (Alissa) Burns; sister Winnie Moran; sister Darlene (Roland) Nale; nephew John (Rondi) Nale and their children Caleb (Jasmine) Nale, Hannah (Sawyer) Bachman, Cole Nale, Hunter Nale; nephew Charles (Janet) Moran, Jr.; niece Marianne (Rodney) West and their children Josiah (Kelly) West, Daniel West, Zoe West, and Timothy West.
