Mary Kay Radich

Mary Kay Radich – "Mom" to her children, "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Mary Kay to many others – passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 19, 1929, in Watsonville, California, to a father who immigrated from Croatia and a mother born in Arizona to Croatian parents. Croatian was her first language at home. Though she grew up during the Great Depression, she chose to see wonder in everything. "How nice!" or "Beautiful! she would often say, phrases that became her signature outlook on life.

Her childhood on the family orchard brought her joy, especially picking apples and tending to animals alongside her brothers, John and Anthony, and her sister, Dorothy. In 1952, she married her grade-school classmate, Jim Radich. They built a life together until his passing in 1986, and Mary Kay remained faithfully devoted to him for the rest of her life. In 1997, Mary Kay moved from Watsonville to Moraga to be closer to her grandchildren.

Mary Kay loved life's simple pleasures. She found peace in her garden, delight in carefully inspecting fresh vegetables at the market, and companionship in her adopted outdoor cat, Spot and indoor rescue cat, Annabelle. Mary Kay was a wonderful cook and baker and had immeasurable pleasure in hosting holiday meals and sharing cookies during Christmas. Later in life, she became a devoted Golden State Warriors fan-when a game was on, she was glued to the action, not answering her phone.

Above all, Mary Kay loved her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Janice Kay Murphy. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Michelle) Radich and Paul (Kerry) Radich; her son-in-law, Dan Murphy; eight grandchildren-Christine, Stephen, Luke, Nick, John, Ellie, Lauren, and Matthew-and six great-grandchildren.
