After a decade of living with kidney disease, Mate suddenly passed at the age of 81. Loving father of Maryann (Dominik) and Matthew (Julia) and Dida/Stari Tata of Nevada, Matthew, Heidi, Victoria, Annaliese, William and Hans. He is predeceased by his parents Mate and Marija and siblings Joso, Ivan and Pave. He is survived by his brothers and sisters. He will be missed by his extended family, friends and neighbours.
Mate immigrated from Croatia to Canada, where he worked general labour jobs and then successfully landed a job at Dofasco where he was a crane operator for 25 years.
Mate had a great love of nature, he was an avid gardener, and enjoyed camping. His trusting and approachable manner also made him somewhat of an animal whisperer. Mate was a mechanical and innovative thinker, always creating gadgets to get the job done in a more efficient way. He was selfless and always ready to help out others. Mate loved playing and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed.
