Mathew Rakocija of San Pedro, California died the morning of Monday, November 30, 2020. He was a beloved son, an easy-going, funny brother and an adoring uncle. He was born on the 27th of October 1978 in San Pedro, California to Vivian and Vito Rakocija. Mathew graduated from Peninsula High School in 1996, and subsequently earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Santa Cruz in 2000. During college, he studied abroad in France for a year and obtained a fluency in French. He completed a Master's degree in Business Administration at Florida International. He later pursued a career in the solar field. In addition to San Pedro and Los Angeles, Mathew lived in San Francisco and Miami. His deep family roots in Croatia led him to travel all over Europe and his residency in Miami allowed for additional travel throughout South America. A fourth generation member of the Dalmatian-American Club of San Pedro, his passions included playing piano, basketball, the solar/green world, various intellectual pursuits and doting on his dog, Max. Mathew is survived by his father Vito, brother Lucas (Amy) Rakocija, niece Ava, puggle Max and an extended Croatian family both domestic and abroad. He was loved and will be missed by many. The funeral service will be a private gathering. The family sends its heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support.
