Mile (Mike) Cvitkovic passed away peacefully at his Burnaby home on April 16, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on March 21, 1933, in Mostar, Hercegovina, Croatia, Mike lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and a profound devotion to his family and community.
In 1957, Mike bravely left his homeland, traveling through Austria before landing in Montreal, Quebec, then travelling by train to Vancouver in search of a better future. With determination and resilience, he began a new chapter in Canada that would span nearly seven decades and leave a lasting legacy.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Vera, his three devoted daughters Visnja, Mirjana, and Davorka, his son-in-law Lloyd, and his two grandsons, Michael and Robert. He was immensely proud of his family and the home and life they built together in Burnaby. His life was centered around his family, and he took great joy in watching his grandchildren grow into young men.
A man of faith, Mike was a founding parishioner of Hrvatska Katolička Župa Srca Marijina (Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Parish) on 1st Avenue in East Vancouver where he met Vera. Mike was also a community founder of the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver. He led the church choir for many years, sharing his love of music and heritage with his community. Under his guidance, the choir became an integral part of the parish.
In 1979, Mike founded Trakmaster Parts and Rebuilding, a business he built with integrity and determination. Through years of hard work, he grew the company into a successful and respected operation before retiring. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence left a mark on everyone he worked with.
Mike will be remembered as a kind, principled, and humble man whose life touched many. His legacy lives on in his family, and the many friends and colleagues who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to ABC Care Services and their Caregivers, Diana, Maryann, Sonja, Cora, and Mafe for the excellent care, compassion and dignity they provided this past year.
As a husband, father and grandfather, you will always be in our memories and live in our hearts, we love you and miss you very much.
A private family service will be held to celebrate his life In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Church, 3105 East First Avenue, Vancouver BC V5M 1B6 in his memory.
