Milka was born in Licki Osik, Croatia on June 8, 1932, to parents Mile and Kata Butkovic. Raised as a child in bucolic surroundings on the family farm in Lika, she went on to complete her medical training in Zagreb, Croatia.

Along with her husband Dragutin (Drago), she embraced her new life in her adopted country of the United States. Together they worked hard to establish a home and provide for their children. In her later years, she forged a new path by tutoring Croatian and Bosnian immigrant children.

Her dedication to these children was held in high esteem by their grateful parents and school educators. Milka was proud of her Croatian heritage and well-versed in the Croatian language and history which she passed on to her only grandchild Nevil-Gordan who adored his Baka.

She had a fine contralto voice which harmonized beautifully with her husband's tenor as they sang the old Croatian ballads. She delighted in her garden, especially her exquisite and bountiful roses. Milka was predeceased by her parents, devoted husband Drago, her siblings Stipe, Marica, Katica, and her nephew Ivica.

She is survived by her children Gordana, Davorin, and Zrinka, her son-in-law Matt and her grandson Nevil-Gordan and nieces Ana and Katarina of Gospic, Croatia. Milka had a special closeness to Godparents Kuma Milka and Kum Pave Paulic as well as the Mlinar, Chromik, and Grahovac families. She regarded them as part of her own extended family.
