Milkica Julia Vucic, 78, a longtime resident of Lake Forest, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Croatia to Drago and Kata Troscan, Julia immigrated to the United States and spent her childhood in the Bridgeport neighborhood where she met the love of her life, Mirko. Together, they embarked on a new chapter in Lake Bluff, starting a family and taking over operations of the Great Lakes Motel in 1973.
Tragically, Julia lost her husband shortly after the birth of their daughter. Faced with raising young children and managing a business on her own, she faced adversity with quiet courage—never wavering, showing weakness, or asking for pity. Driven by fierce devotion to her family and bolstered by their support, Julia successfully ran the motel for more than 20 years.
Once her children were grown, Julia set out to pursue a new goal, earning an Associate Degree in Psychology from the College of Lake County. She put her education to work at Abbott House in Highland Park, where she dedicated over 30 years to supporting mental health patients. Julia had a rare gift for connection, treating every patient with dignity, compassion, and respect.
A woman of profound, lifelong faith, Julia relied on her beliefs to guide her through life's hardships. Her resilience and selflessness made her an unforgettable role model to her family and community. Julia brought more love into the world and will be dearly cherished.
Julia is survived by her children Michael and Barbara (William) Siragusa, sister-in-law Mary Troscan, and nephews Michael and Tony Troscan. She is preceded in death by her husband Mirko and her brother Ivo Troscan.
