It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our mom and grandmother Nada Tezak on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Mississauga Trillium Hospital, surround by her children.

Born on March 21, 1935 in Loncar Brdo, Netretic, Croatia to Dora and Josip Gunja. She is survived by her daughter Mary (Mira), son-in-law Mijo and son Chuck (Dragutin). Baba to Monika, Marina, Nicholas and Andrei. Mom will be reunited with dad after 40 years of his passing. Beloved sister of Ruda Gunja (deceased) & family, cousin to; Danko Gunja & family, Margie Kranjac & family, Branko Skrak and family and family & friends in Croatia and Canada.

She was very proud of becoming a godmother (kuma) of 22. Mom’s exciting journey of life began when she married dad, Vlado Tezak, and moved to Ozalj, Croatia. After starting a family, we all left Croatia in June 1958 and immigrated to Welland to be with our grandparents Slava and Vida Tezak where life in Canada began. Mom’s first job was working at the shoe factory in Port Colborne and later at the Wabasso Cotton Mill in Welland.

She was an active member of the Croatian National Home from the early days and held her membership to present day. Mom also was a member of the Croatian Federation Unit of Canada. In mom’s later years she moved to Toronto and Mississauga to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was a strong and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Mom always found a way to make each day worth living.

She liked doing her word search puzzles in front of the TV when she wasn't cooking and baking goods or calling family and friends. Through her stories of life in Croatia to her early years in Canada, she taught her grandchildren what hard work and good faith could bring when there is a big family to stand behind. Baba's memory will live on through every cabbage roll or walnut roll ever made for generations to come.

May she rest peacefully, reunited with the love of her life watching over their family together. A special thank you to her family doctor, Dr. J. Baugniet for her care through the years. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Mohammed and the nursing staff on 6J at Mississauga Trillium Hospital for their care in mom’s final days.
