Doctor Spoljaric graduated from Karlovac high school (gimnazija) in Croatia in 1953 and received his BS degree in geology from the University of Ljubljana in1957. For several years he worked at the Petroleum Institute in Zagreb. Upon arrival to the United States he earned his masters degree from Harvard University and PhD in geology from Bryn Mawr University.
He worked at the University of Delaware as a senior research scientist and professor for 35 years. Nenad was highly respected by his colleagues and the scientific community for his research and contributions to the field of geology. He was a published author and received many awards for his work and research.
Neno, short for Nenad, was a wonderful person, great loving husband, father and grandfather, so kind, so gentle and so warm. He put the needs of others above his own.
Nenad is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 58 years, high school sweetheart and love of his life, his beloved son Raymond Eugene Spoljaric, his loving daughter-in-law Kelley and his 3 adoring grandchildren Chase, Madison and Tyler.
He is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends in the USA and abroad and his dear gimnazija colleagues in Croatia and a special friend Joza Ball in Sweden.
Nenad was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Zlata Špoljarić in Croatia.
