It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nikola Butorac (Nick) on May 25, 2022 with family by his side. Nick was born in Donje Pazariste, Croatia in 1949.
Nick completed his trade school in Zagreb and in spring of 1968 immigrated to Thunder Bay with his family. Nick started working in a bush camp and after some time obtained a job at a mine in Manitouwadge as a trade's person. He went on to work at Western Engineering followed with a lengthy career with Bombardier.
Nick did not miss a day visiting his mom while she resided at Bethammi Nursing Home before Covid. He loved handing out his Hershey kisses to all the staff, residents and indeed his many acquaintances around the town.
Generous of spirit he was always ready with a fiver to pass to a person in need and was especially generous to his family throughout the years. He read a great deal and held opinions on everything and was eager to share his sense of humour with all he met!
Nick loved his daytime and evening walks, usually ending at a coffee shop or park with his good friend Eloi and many others and mulling over current affairs. He also enjoyed the long walks on bush roads at the family camp and finding a shady spot from which to observe the excitement of the many festivities on land and lake.
During the final chapter of his life, he was grateful for the support from Marko and Virginia in helping cook nutritious meals and get to various medical appointments.
Nick will be lovingly remembered by brother Marko (Virginia), sisters Anka and Ljuba (Phil), nephews Jack, Peter (Karen), Paul (Marriah), Tom and nieces Mary, Kaya and Sara, great nephews Chase, Cole, Clay and Ivan.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and Kata, sister Millie and niece Joan as well as other relatives both here in Canada and in Croatia.
A Celebration of Life for Nikola will take place later date.
