Nikola "Nick" Jakominich passed away on March 22nd, 2023, at the age of 88. Beloved life partner of 30 years to Susan Waddell. Devoted father of Mira Mayer and her husband Harry. Adoring grandfather of Kristian Mayer and Emilija Gross and her husband Daniel. Caring great grandfather of Olivija and Lilijana Gross. Dear brother of Dušica and the late John, Osip, Marica, Toncic, and Branko. Nick will also be missed by his many cousins, relatives, and friends both in the US and Croatia.
Nick was born in the former Yugoslavia, now Croatia, in 1934 to parents Josip and Marija Jakominic. He grew up in the small village of Sveti Vid on the island of Krk. He emigrated to the US in 1969, settled in Cherry Hill, and began working for local builders constructing homes. Eventually he and brothers John and Branko started their own construction company.
Nick made friends easily and loved to tell stories and jokes, especially on April Fools' Day. He enjoyed bowling, bocce, and playing Italian cards – rather competitively! He also took pleasure in singing traditional Croatian folk songs, dancing, and even playing the Croatian musical instruments "sopeli".
It was very sad for his family and friends to see Nick lose these skills and hobbies in his later years as his dementia progressed. Happily, he did enjoy playing with his great-granddaughter until the end of his life. We, his friends and family, will always fondly remember his endless supply of stories, jokes, and generosity.
