With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Pavao ‘Pajo’ Oreskovic on December 7, 2025 in his 96th year, surrounded by his family, at Age Care-Willowgrove nursing home in Ancaster.
He leaves behind Manda (nee Jurkovic) his beloved wife of 67 years, his grateful sons Mike/Milan (Deborah) and Steven/Stjepan (Brenda), his adoring grandchildren Nikolas (Kylene), Michelle, Miles (Emily), Christopher and Luke, and his treasured great grandchildren Klara, Blake and Levi.
He is predeceased by his parents Mile and Kata, siblings Ivan, Ilija, Pavao, Stjepan, Luka, Marija, Ivka, Matija, and survived by his siblings Jakov and Josipa. He will be fondly missed by many friends and extended family in Canada, Croatia, Germany and France.
Pavao was born in Siroka Kula, Lika, Croatia in 1930. During his early years he knew great hardship having lost his mother and three siblings. He was a man of very humble beginnings and remained humble throughout his long life. In 1959 he married Manda Jurkovic and had two sons. In 1968 he and Manda made the difficult decision to leave their homeland and emmigrate to Canada (Hamilton). He found work first at the Fearman’s meat plant in Burlington and then at Dofasco where he worked for 24 years. After arriving in Canada they soon purchased a house, raised and married their sons and watched their family grow.
He retired in 1993 and enjoyed a long, active and happy retirement. Being a humble man, he enjoyed the simple things in life. He could be seen tending to his vegetable garden, trimming his plants, working in his garage or simply relaxing in the shade on a hot summer day. He loved to be outdoors and even during the winter he would spend the entire morning shovelling the snow. He couldn’t do without his long daily walk. He and Manda would sit on the porch in the evening to watch the world go by and the sun go down.
As we fondly remember our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Age Care-Willowgrove nursing home in Ancaster for the wonderful compassionate care they provided to Pavao for over six years.
